Chet Baker Sings
Chet Baker
Chet's
first full-fledged vocal album. A lot of syrupy material here, but over
all it works thanks to Freeman's fine accompaniment. Many
of these tunes became standards for Chet, and they seem to be to most
widely-issued recordings of his. People that want to remember Chet only as
a ballad crooner form the 1950's, may stop with this recording, but Chet
did so much more in the mid-fifties. Still, there are some fine moments,
such as the definitive Chet Baker tunes "Time After Time", and "Look For The Silver Lining". There are mostly ballads here, with a few
swinging tunes like "That Old Feeling".
